About Our School

Udny Green School is a small rural school located in the pretty village of Udny Green just 5 miles from the town of Oldmeldrum. The school serves a wide rural area and also has pupils from outwith the catchment area. Udny Green School is part of Meldrum Community Schools Network and pupils transfer to Meldrum Academy at the end of Primary 7. The school forms an integral part of the community. There is a high level of parental involvement and community participation in the life of the school.

The building itself consists of one classroom in the main building and 2 classrooms in the fixed rear accommodation, a hall, library area, kitchen, where school lunches are freshly prepared each day, staff room and an office. The windows throughout the main building have recently been replaced and the school was successful in receiving an Education Scotland Food for Thought Fund Grant which has provided new cookers, a dishwasher and cooking and gardening equipment to improve Food and Health Education. We are also fortunate to have the use of the walled garden at Udny Castle for growing vegetables and our business partner, Craig Wilson, Head Chef and Proprietor of local award winning restaurant ‘Eat on the Green’ has enabled a number of projects in our school including a One Planet Picnic; Soup Community Cafe fundraiser for Macmillan and supporting children to become finalists in the Taste of Grampian Packed Lunch Competition.

We have beautiful extensive grounds for outdoor play and learning, with a netball pitch and a large grassy playing field suitable for a number of sporting activities. The Pupil Council have been improving the playground experience and were recently involved in selecting new equipment for outdoor play. The children enjoy spending time with adults exploring a secret garden at the bottom of the school grounds, pond and bug hotel. They also enjoy weaving at picnic tables, playing outdoor musical instruments and creating ‘potions’ in their mobile kitchen.  A Pupil Support Assistant is on hand to ensure that the children are safe and supported during break and lunchtimes.
